The Sufi tradition inspired by 13th century poet Rumi incorporates this symbol into a meditative and spiritual dance. Rumi would say that when we dance within the circle, we mimic the movement of the entire universe and everything within it. That our turning gives tribute to how the physical world experiences existence.
The circle, the spiral repeats itself with no end in nature and the Golden Ratio. And it reappears in Native American beliefs, specifically in the writings of Black Elk.
In other words, when we dance within a circle, we create - if just for a few moments - our very own universe. And everything within it.
